It is authoritatively learned that the government has no intention of making any appointments to the Legislative Council before, the end of the present session of Parliament.

The Hutt Valley Court returns for the quarter ended 30th September, with figures for the same quarter last year in parentiheses, are as follows:—Petone: Criminal cases, 84 (82); fines, fees, etc., £134 (£159); plaints entered, 7S (6S); total amount sued for £1031 (£838). Lower Hutt: Criminal cases, 286 (127); fines, fees, etc., £462 (£341);" plaints entered, 190 (275); total amount sued for £3143 (£3554).
