itfQUEST ON A WOMAN

GISBORNE, This Day. ; After an interval of three months, the. inquest concerning the death of • Mrs. Elizabeth Beattie was resumedthis morning before the District Coroner, Mr. P. H. Harper, S.M. Mrs. Beattie, who was 48 years of age, died on 7th August, and" the inquest was opened on the following day, but was adjourned for a report by an analyst. x

Detective McLeod, in reopening the proceedings to-day, stated that analysts had discovered 16 grains of poison. After exhaustive inquiries the police had been unable to ascertain how she obtained possession of the poison. The deceased was the wife of a man in South Canterbury, and came to Gisborne twelve years ago with another, with' whom she had lived happily. The case is proceeding. '
