INDEPENDENT IRAK
ADMISSION TO LEAGUE
ROYAL MESSAGE AND REPLY
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, sth October. On the admission of Irak to the League of Nations the King sent the following congratulatory telegram to the King of Irak:— '■■■'■ I have learnt with the greatest pleasure of tho admission of Irak to membership of the League of Na-. tions as a free and independent State, and I hasten to offer warm" congratulations on this most auspicious event, which will, I trust, be followed .by the increasing prosperity of your kingdom and the further strengthening of the cordial friendship existing between our two countries. i King Faisal, in acknowledging with great pleasure the kind message of felicitations, says:— I avail myself of this auspicious opportunity to send Your Majesty in my name and on behalf of my people my most sincere gratitude for the > valuable assistance which we Have .received throughout the past years from Your Majesty and your noble people, and which I regard as the. chief factor in the-attainment of this our status. To state . solemnly that we are indebted to.a great ex.- ---' tent in our attainment of this happy stage to the aid afforded by Your Majesty is but to confess an act of grace. AYe will always remember those acts of favour .and vrish Your Majesty's noble Royal Family and your people prosperity and welfare. Sir John Simon, Foreign Secretary, in a congratulatory telegram to Jafal Pasha, Irak Minister of Foreign Affairs,, says that His Majesty's Government looks forward with confidence to the close and cordial co-operation of tlie two Governments to their new relationship. ■'?'■■
