MR, j: DALRYMPLE

Mr. John Dalrymple, who was wellknown and respected in "Wellington, and in the Wairarapa, Manawatu, and North Taranaki districts, died * this week at the age of 66 years. The late 'Mr. Dalrymple came to- New Zealand from the Midlands of England in tho 'eighties, and settled near Mastcrtou. For many years he was engaged in .farming in the Wairarapa'and later was in business in Cartorton a*nd Longburn. ,He was. one of the pioneers in.New Zealand of the comniercial side of the. picture theatre business, being, fj>r._a lengthy period part-owner of th» Lyric in Auckland, at one. time the;: largest ; and most modern ."theatre in. the Dominion. The late Mr. Dalrymple; was a keen bowler and was identified with the West End (New Plymouth).
