NOTED VIOLINISTS VISIT
Advance arrangements for the forthcoming tour of IjTew -Zealand by Josef Szigeti, the Hungarian violinist, are being made by Mr. W. M. E. Mandeville.
"Although the name of Josef Szigeti may not be a household one in Jfew Zealand," said Sir. Mandeville, "it is a name to conjure with in Europe. Szigeti, who was a pupil of Hubay, the noted teacher and composer, is not yet forty .years of age, yet he has toured the United States eight times, and has established a great name in the Orient. He has-already toured Japan on three occasions, and leaves again for that country immediately on the completion of the Xew Zealand tour, sailing from Auckland on 25th October for Tokio, via Sydney. On account of that tour the visit to New; Zealand has had to be cut down to .twenty days," so that there will be no time for sight-seeing. A- Sydney critic referred to'Szigeti and Kreisler as 'twin peaks of the violinistic art.'"
The New Zealand tour will be as follows:—Wellington, 4th, 6th, and Bth October; .Wanganui, sth October; Palmerston North, 7th October; Dunedin, 12th 13th, and 14th October; Christchurch 15th, 17th and 18th October; Hamilton 20th October; Auckland, 21st, 22nd, and 24th October.
Szigeti! may 'he heard with orchestra during the, Wellington season.
