ELECTION COUNT PROCEEDING
The count is proceeding in connection with the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board elections forWards 5 and 6 (North Island) and Ward 9 (South Island), and the returning officer (Mr. P. W- Grainger) expects to be able to make a preliminary announcement tonight. The official result will probably be available to-morrow. .
The board is elected on the ward system. There are six wards in the North Island and three in the' South, each returning one representative. Provision has been made for the elections to be held on a rotatio^ system, N and each year there are two retirements in, the North Island and one in the South. The sitting members are eligible for re-election.
Tho elections this year are causing more than usual interest by reason of tho fact that in No. 6 ward the chairman of the board (Mr. W. A. Iprits) is opposed by Mr. A. H: Hanson, chairman <3f directors of the .Tamaki Cooperative .'Dairy Company. In No. 5 ward Mr. J. E. Corrigan has also a formidaMo opponent in Mr. C. G. C. Dermer, chairman of the Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., one of tjio largest butter-making concerns in tho Dominion. There is also a third candidate in the No. 5 ward, Mr. C. H. Burnett, who has taken a prominent purl; in local body activities in the Wangamii district. In the South Island poll (Ward 9), the sitting member, Mr. J. Dunlop, the retiring meml)pr, is opposed by Mr. J. Bourcliier, find il; is expected that the contest will bo a close one.
