He then referred to the East-Coast line where, as a result of the board's visit, a: plebiscite recently taken, by the suppliers of the largest dairy in the district had decided by a large majority to 'give their business to the railways. Had.the board's information, not been complete and conclusive, such a decision could not have been reached.

"I regard myself as a unit of the service, and am always prepared to meet, on a common footing, every member of the staff," said Mr. Mackley in. referring to the cordial relations existing between the management and the staff. "The compliments paid by prominent business' men have been very flattering and. encouraging regarding the manner in which members of the Department go about their work. If that spirit continues to prevail, we need have no fear of getting where we want to in the not-too distant , future. " '
