In 1730 a farmer at Croydon, England, boasted o£ his prowess in throwing the skittle ball. For a wager, of £50 he undertook to bowl^his favourite skittle ball between his home and London Bridge, a distance of 11 miles,' without throwing it more than 500 times. He won the wager with a snappy 445. :
What is said to be the first aquarium in China was opened to the public at Tsingtao. Shantung, recently. It is equipped with modern facilities. Eighteen • large glass pools built into the walls display the fishes. In the rear is a nursery for the raising of small fishes and other water specimens. There are also research laboratories and offices.
