HEAVY LOSSES

POSITION IN WAIRARAPA

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CAETEKTON, This Day. The floods in the Wairarapa have fallen and risen again, but in the northern area the worst is considered over. The stop-bank in the Kahutara lower valley gave way suddenly yesterday afternoon. Heavy losses of sheep and cattle arc reported. One large run-holder esti-

mates his loss at 800 sheep. Another at Tuhitarata lost a number of wethers, while many of the smaller men report losses, but so far one cannot estimate their extent.

Tho Waiohine River again heavily flooded the Carterton-Greytown road last night. The water rose nearly as high as the peak. To-day the waters receded. The roadway is still flooded, but passable for traffic.

The Kokotau district is completely isolated. The settlers' dwellings are dotted about like little islands. It is tho worst visitation for many years. Rain is still falling, but it is much lighter. The Rimutaka road is still unsafe.
