MESSAGE OF HOPE

THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL

DANGER OF INDUSTRIAL

STRIFE

"There is undoubtedly a narrow silver lining showing in the cloud of depression," was the most encouraging remark of the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) in an informal address to the Botorua Eotary Club (states the "Botorua, Morning Post").

"I am not going to emphasise this point," he continued, "but I have confidence and hope for the future of this Dominion, firstly because all sections of ih.e community have now a knowledge of the true position and are showing a strength, and determination to face it, and secondly, because there is an obvious willingness on the part of all classes to get together (in the true spirit of Eotary) and to seek points of contact rather than points of difference. These are sources of hope and confidence."

Continuing, His Excellency deplored the possibility of any return to the industrial strife of former decades, and stressed the fact that any such retrograde step would be the worst possible factor towards the rehabilitation of the Dominion during the crisis through which it was now passing.
