FARM LABOURERS' SUBSIDY
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Can you give me any information regarding farm labourers' wages for unemployed workers. Is the Government allowance still the same rate of pay or has it lowered? I signed on for a position with a farmer and was to receive £1 a week from the Government as subsidy to my employer's allowance. I have since been informed that the allowance has been lowered to 15s for married men with no children, the maximum being i 255. I have closely followed your publications and have seen nothing to indicate any change. If this is correct it should have been made public through the local papers. I would be greatly obliged if you would enlighten me on this subject!— I am, etc., N.D.B.
The Unemployment Board states that the subsidy to farm workers has recently been revised, in some, cases resulting in a slight reduction and in other cases in an increase, according to family responsibilities. Previously the maximum amount payable to a married man was 20s per: week, while at the present time ifc is 255.' . .
