NOTHING BETTER BRED

One of the toughest propositions for the bracket (Merry Way-Glowlight) in the Opunake Scurry at New Plymouth on Saturday may prove to be Mr. F. Bristol's Peschiera, an inmate of O. Cox's stable at Hawera. This three-year-old colt had only two races last season, and big things are expected of him this term.

■ On breeding there is nothing in Saturday's race to compare with Peschiera.. He is by Tea Tray from the imported Square Measure mare Quadrilateral, one of the imported English mares at thei .lilderslie Stud. Quadrilateral was : a winner of three two-year-old rices in Englaud, then was purchased for export to the Dominion. As she belongs to the famous Paraffin branch of the 3STo. 1 family [through a halfsister (Ebba) to Chelandry," it would seem that she was especially acquired by jthe Elderslie Stud for mating with Tea Tray, who is a,great-grandson.of Chelandry.-Ebba and Chelandry were both daughters of Paraffin's best daughter,, llluminata, who has had such a wide influence in the production ot champion racehorses in Australia and Xew Zealand. Peschiera is the result of a most scientific mating, and he may well turn out to be a high-class racehorse.
