RISE IN SILVER
EFFECT OF SPECULATION
REACTION ANTICIPATED
LONDON, 12th August.
. .pommenting on a sudden, rise of silver to 18 15-16 pence per ounce, the "Morning Post" says that the buying movement began by some- speculation in China, and was fanned by larger speculation in New York. The precise basis of the speculation is not discernible, as no development has occurred indicating an increased demand on. the "London bullion market.'Therefore the paper apprehenda'a reaction.
Both silver mining- and cotton shares have advanced, the latter on thg ex pectatipn of increased Far Eastern purchasing power, but the movement, must have a more- definite foundation Before it can justify the hopes already raised. ■
