SHAW'S "SHORT" STORY
George Bernard Shaw told his friends at the Shakespeare ceremonies he had just written a "long short story" of about 15,000 words;-, says /the "New York Times." It is his first work of fiction since he wrote on «< An Unsocial Socialist" nearly fifty years ago. He has-not yet given it a title, but-he explained it dealt with God and fundamentalism. "With his tongue in " his cheek he added, "I don't think it will interest America."
In his youth, Mr. Shaw wrote fivo novels before he tried his liaud, at playwriting. .Four of these were published in the 1880 's, but the first one lie wrote remained in manuscript for a half century and only recently was announced for publication ander: the' / title of "Immaturity," as a part of a collected edition of his works.
His other novels are "An Unsocial bociahst," "Love Among the Artists," "Cashel Byron's Profession," and "The Irrational Knot." These novels achieved small success, but first editions now_ bring a considerable premium.
