OFFICERS' SMOKE CONCERT
The annual smoke concert of the Pastimes Club of the Wellington Chief PoEt Office was held on Saturday evening. The gathering was one of the most successful yet held'by the club, 'and was largely attended. Mr. H. C. Bennett, chairman of the club, presided, and many senior officers of tho Department were preseht,.jncluding Mr. G. McNamara, C.B.E. (Permanent Head), Mr. J. M, McLean (Chief Postmaster), Mr. ;W- P. Aldridge (Assistant-Postmas-ter^ Mr. Dunne (Accountant), Mr. Hobbs-Jones (Superintendent of Mails), Messrs. E. B. Reynolds, JV Hamilton, A. E. Fredric, anfl also a iiuniber of retired officers. ;.
The toast of-"The Department" was proposed by Mr. McLean, and-replied to by Mr. McNamara, who gave inueh interesting information in regard to the present position of the Department.
Mr. McNamara expressed the belief that the corner had been turned, and that the Department could now . look forward to increased-business.
Mr. E. B. Reynolds proposed tho toast o£ the "Pastimes' Club," and Mr. H. C. Bennett replied. ..
The toast of "The Ladies" was in the hands of Mr. W. P. Alaridge, and tho reply was given l>y Mr. Bowman.
The musical programme was a .very fine one, the artists being Messrs. O'Brien, Thomas, Hawken, Puller, Darroch, Goodson, Wylic, Hoper, and Tynan, with Mr. A. Williams at the piano.
