A CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS

Although nominated, Mr. Wireinu Mihaka, Independent Coalitionist, has announced his withdrawal from the contest for the Southern Maori seat in favour of the official Coalition candidate, Mr. Ned Parata.

In making tho announcement at Timaru, Mr. Mihaka said he bejjleved it was in the best interests of the Maoris of the South Island to support the Coalition Government. He earnestly urged his followers to transfer their support unreservedly to Mr. Parata.

The Southern Maori election takes place on Wednesday.
