STORM IN SYDNEY

LIGHTNING AND HAIL

CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE

(Received Ist August, 1 p.m.)

SYDNEY,' This Day

A severe electrical storm swept the Metropolitan area during tho night. Lightning disorganised, the automatic point-controlling gear at the North Sydney Railway Station, and caused a temporary interference with light supplies elsewhere. .

Torrential rain and hail in tho Eastern and Southern suburbs did much minor damage to property. The hailstorm was particularly severe on the South Coast. The weight of accumulated hail caused a garage roof to collapse at Thirroul. Gardens were destroyed at Austinmer, and roads rendered impassable. The Bulli Pass was blocked for a time. . ;
