WELLINGTON CITY OBSERVATION.
• • • • ; Oh fine-nights-duping the past week,' the new comet discovered by Mr. Geddes, of Otago, has been followed with the nineinch telescope at the City Observatory. During this time the comet was passing obliquely through the Southern Cross, and by to-night yrill have passed right out of this constellation, There is very little change in brightness, but the coma appears to'have' become smaller. . Many ■reports would"lead one' tjiTbelieve that fthe comet'is Visible" in "binoculars, but this is incorrect; it is much too faint.- Last Saturday' evening an interestiug lecture was . given on the motions of the ' stars. The Observatory will be open ito the public to-morrow night, when a lecture will be given on "Variable Stars." The telescope will also be used if the weather is suitable.
