WEATHER FORECASTS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —During the two odd years I have lived in Wellington, I have noticed the daily weather forecast as given to the newspapers is very rarely correct; in fact, it would be safe to say that eight times out of ten tho forecast does not come true. Whilst I appreciate the fact that tho vagaries of the weather are perhaps more pronounced in Wellington than in many_ other districts, I have been wondering, in_ view of the numerous occasions on which the weather forecast is absolutely incorrect (as far as Wellington itself is concerned), if it really a forecast for the Wellington district, or do«s it cover a much more extensive are*. If the daily forecast only covers a very large radius where it is quite possible to _ experience fine weather in Wellington itself and rain in a district not so masny, miles away, why cannot' a special forecast for Wellington alone be issued for the bepfit of the-Wellington people? —I am, etc., ' . EX-OFFICER.

The forecast is a general one for New Zealand. For every place to have a special forecast issued for its own special benefit would entail work which the Meteorological Office, with its present resources, would be quite unable to undertake.
