AUCKLAND AERO CLUB

A SATISFACTORY YEAR

In-spito of a loss of £395 on the year's operations, the finances of the Auckland Aero Club are considered to be satisfactory, according to the annual report. In -the income and expenditure account, flying section, a net loss of £199 is recorded, the principal items in the receipts being £1265 from hire of machines, £1128 from instruction fees, and £939 from passenger flights. The largest items in the, expenditure, were £1610 for salaries' and wages, and £1443 allowed for depreciation. A loss was anticipated, owing to the general financial position, .and every effort was made to meet the conditions. The result is considered particularly satisfactory, especially when it is remembered that the subsidy for the year was reduced by nearly £300, as part of the Government's economy plan, and the receipts from grazing represented less than half the amount received in normal times. These two items alone account for practically the whole of the deficit.

' Particular attention was given to increasing the membership of the club during the year, and in this respect the social activities which had grown round the clubhouse and the tennis courts were of immense.value, the report adds. There were at present 659 members, an increase of 187 over last year's total of 472. The membership was composed of 68 pilots, 96 pupils, and 495 associate members.

During the year, 19 pupils obtained A licences, and two qualified for B licences. For the year ended 30th April the club's machines flew 1443 hours 20 minutes, compared with a total of 1601 houfs 20 minutes for the previous year. From February, 1929, to 30th April, 1932, the machines had completed 4611 hours. _ Of this total, 1779 hours represent hire, 1215 instruction, 721 passenger flying, 398 miscellaneous, 378 solo, and 118 test.

Eeferenee is made to the formation of a library during the year, and also to the erection of the new and larger hangar.
