I (By "Rangatira.") Although weather conditions were excellent riot much fast work was attempted at "Trentham this'morning. The outside of the course proper was open and provided first-class going. Flower (J. Gumi), picked up by Purse (S. Wilson) at the half-mile, ran. fivefurlongs in Imin 3 4-ssec, the final halfmile in 50 2-ssee. Purse was ti shade in front at the end. ; : ' ' \ Miss Hastings (W. E. Shand), having her first fast gallop for a fortnighf, was too good at the end for Black Mint (Wilson), beating him by two lengths over an easy mile, the; last half-mile being in 55sec. Black Mint is not galloping so well at present as ho was a few weeks back. ' • ; Eminent (Wilson) and Lavington (I. Bohloff) did an easy' five furlongs together in Imin Bsec. . ■ Royal Game (W. H.'Jbnps) also work-" ed over a mile easily, coming home from the half-mile in 53 2-ss'ec t Jones'is to. ride him at Otaki. ': • " Aroma (A. Leach) again" showed her speed by galloping away •from Miss; Beatrice (Gunn) • over half" a uiile in; 50 3-ssoe. Their full time' was Imin 45 4-ssec, tli& final seven furlongs being done in Imin 32 4-osec, . and the last half-mile in"s3 l-ssec/ vPahu's effort was an excellent one for . a hurdler. V' w The ranks of trainers at: Trentham may shortly receive an addition in Mr. W. J. Wood; who lias applied to the District Committee for recommendation for a licence. Wood, who has been in the Dominion about five years, has had training experience in the stable of Ms father, who trains in England, and if he is granted a-licence he will have one or two horses to start on. ' The Sun, accompanied by his trainer, C. Pritehard, leaves for the- South this evening to race at'Washdyke oir Saturday and afterwards at ' Wmgatui.: ,1.. Rohloff will ride -iim in his engagements.
