Extensive-'yainfalphas been experienced in Eastern Australia. Heavy falls are predicted in ' Central and Southern New South Wales, and it is expected,that 1,500,000 square miles of Australia will receive beneficial rains during the next few days. The tropical or monsoonal rains are expected to pass over Victoria and Tasmania, until half of the whole of Eastern Australia has received the benefit.
The Adelaide Municipal Tramways had a surplus of £10,980 for the halfyear ending 31st January, the first profit for nine years. •:. Although no official information is available/ a Canberra message states tlvat probably a fleet; of fishing boats will bo sent to search the coast for the missing flying boat, which is overdue, at Darwin. It was suggested in aviation circles in Melbourne that Hans Bertram, the pilot, had halted at' an island for a few days. -A married woman, aged 23, after three days' .fruitless search for work, jumped, into the sea, states a Sydney message. She,was found amongst the rocks, and later charged with attempted suicide. "I found out last night it. is easier to live than to die," she said.
It is reported from Sydney that business in the country is benefiting by the payments of superannuation and endowments. Work will be provided in all parts of New South Wales ou an equitable basis, both city and country benefiting.
Another "cat" burglar has been found by detectives, states a Sydney message. More than 100 charges of theft were made against the accused.
An extraordinary loss of memory and paralysis is reported. Leaving Sydney in January, a man named Campbell, aged 27, and two comrades went hunting. Campbell became paralysed in two legs and the left eye. He is now being taught to use his limbs acain like a little child.
William Bobinson, anightwatehman, died on Wednesday night as a result of the fire at Armadale. The police suspect that the building was deliberately set on fire. Robinson, could probably have assisted in clearing up the mystery had he lived. He uttered the word "car" as he was dying. The police are trying to trace a car seen rushing away from the building before the brigade arrived.
