The Standing Committee of the Houses of Commons, by 27 votes to 23, passed an. amendment limiting the operation, of the Sunday Performances Bill to London. • '< >

Mr. O. Stanley, Under-Secretary of the Home Office, opposing this, said that the Government regarded it. as vital that some Bill be passed in ' the present session. It is understood that the' Government decided itself'to introduce a measure legalising the present Sunday openings and allowing other municipalities to secure the same after a poll of the people.
