HERRIOT PROSPECTS
LONDON, ioth May.. The Paris correspondent of :" The Times' ' states that .the French. election had the unsatisfactory effect of weakening the Centre parties, which provide the main elements .of. moderation in domestic policy. , •. . •
M. Herriot.told the ''Evening News'' Paris correspondent that i he- would heartily support the. League of Nations.' He wanted arbitration on all problems. ■The Paris cbrrespo'ndent' of : the "News-Chronicle recalls'that MV Herriot championed the Geneva protocol arid was notoriously friendly and sympathetic with Mr. Mac Donald. - Therefore, he. may be more tolerant than M. Tardieu respecting disarmament. In an'editorial, the "Daily /Herald" says: ""It is. clear ■ that the French people have tired of M: Tardieu's attitude .on foreign affairs. They want more of'the spirit of Locarno .and less of the spirit of"Versailles. . France's policy under M. Herriot Bhould be less rigid and obstinate than under MM. Tardien and Laval.."
