HEAVY RAIN
WEATHER IMPROVING
As indicated 'yesterday, the fair weather was of brief duration only. Owing to tho development off the West Coast of a cyclonic centre, conditions last evening rapidly became unsettled again, and sinco then, rain has fallen over the greater- part of the Dominion. There have been some heavy falls in nearly, all districts, Motueka, near Nelson, 'topping the list with 365 points. Many of the South Island ranges have received a coating of snow, and in quite a .number of localities have been thunderstorms'.
Auckland had fair but misty weather yesterday, the wind being a fresh westerly. Some rain fell there last night In Wellington yesterday the weather was fine and mild, with a y light northerly wind. Rain, however, fell at night and was heavy during the early hours this morning. At Kelburn' 41 points were recorded, 21 falling in Lower Hutt. After a fine morning in Christchurch, the skies clouded over and. tho north-easterly, wind ■ increased to a moderate; gale. Heavy rain fell between. 8 and 10 p.m., and. this morning rain was falling with a south-westerly wind. _In Dunedin yesterday. the weather was fine, cloudy, and cold. Moderate to strong northerly winds are likely to prevail at first over the North Island, . with southerlies or south-easterlies elsewhere. Southerlies, however, will soon become general. Unsettled weather, with further rain is forecasted, and- falls are likely to be heavy in places in central provinces. An improvement, however, should set in: later from the south and west, temperatures in the meantime beine cold. . s
