LOWER HUTT LADIES

Tho "Evening Post" Club commenced its monthly competitions with the first shooting night of this month. The handicappers treated all members (with the exception of Jlr. Xickleas, who Is on scratch) very leniently for a beginning, as new members are still more or less of an unknown quantity, and those of more experience have not as yet shown consistent form, with one or two isolated exceptions. - A few good scores were made, Mrs. Nickless, H. Nlcfcless, and G. Earl all attaining 69 off the gun, and F. Xanbivell, a junior and new shot, making OS. The committee lias decided to raise the handicap average for the aggregate to 69.5, instead of 69 as formerly, to eliminate so much shootlng-off in the finals each; month.- The club captain, Mr. Xlckless has been asked by the committee to devote naif an hour of this week's practice night to gun Instruction for the benefit of all members. KARORI CLUB. Last Tuesday the Karori Club recorded Its shoot for thfr Osmond Shield, but, unfortunately, high scoring was not in evidence that evening. Dore; and Field,, however, both returned good targets, and scored G9 each out of 70. ; The club -was well represented at the -workingbee on the range on Saturday, when some good work was put iv on the construction of the new- .mound. This evening there will be a practice 10-shot shoot. . • . , LOWER HUTT LADIES' CLUB. At the ■ annual meeting of the Lower Hutt Ladies' Club the following officers and committee were elected:—President, Mrs. E. Mitchell;, vice-presidents, Lady Roberts, Dr. Bolt, Mrs. Hanson, Mr. L. A. Caldwell; adjudicator, Mr. Congreve; .auditor, Mr. Goldfinch; club captain, Mrs. Cavaye; vice-captain, Mrs. Orr; secretary, Misa E. Munro; treasurer. Miss V. Newman; delegate to W.M.B.C, Miss E. Laurence; committee lady, Mrs. Chlng; reporter, Miss K. Laurence; coaches, Messrs. H. Keeno and' L. Hare. •-.'. The report and balance-sheet -neve very satisfactory considering the difficult times through which - clubs are passing. A ■ series of • fortnightly "five hundred" afternoons held throughout: the- season assisted greatly towards lessening the decrease In the financial returns. .-; -i. ...■:.,. ■ At the first practice shoot this season there was a ■ very good attendance of members and prospective members, and the club Is hopeful of a very successful season. As the coaching this -year will ; be in the hands of , Messrs. Keeheand Hare, the clulr congratulates itself on securing the services of such" efficient marksmen. '"..'..;. After. a captaincy lasting over four years Mrs. Donbln has found it necessary to retire from.active participation' in ,tho administrative side of the .club, and her. place has been taken by Mrs. Cavaye. The club wishes Mrs. Cavaye and her team good luck for the intorclub competitions. .Practice nights 'are on Thursdays and Saturdays. ■-■-■•■•• The-opening dance was very well attended. Many travelled from Wellington, despite the unpleasant weather conditions, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. 'PUBLIC SERVICE CLUB. A committee meeting was held on the range last Thursday evening, Mr. Croxton presiding. Matters of general interest were discussed. It was decided to hold a special general meetIng at 7.30 p.m., on Thursday, 2nd June, and all members are notified accordingly. Possibles (100) were scored last week by L. K. Poutawera. andA. V. G. Wilson (his second In two weeks). Craig and Hoss each scored 09, and W. J.,Hendry-and S. Gibson 38 each. WELLINGTON WORKING MEN'S CLUB. On Monday evening of last week the Wellington Working Men's Club completed the second series trophy • shooting. The President's Trophy was won by Mr. "R. 3. Stewart, closely followed. by-Messrs.; H. C. Collins and H. Roberts. The vice-president's trophy was won by Jlr. H. Paulson after a shoot-off with Mr. J. Walmsley. Mr. H. Morgan filled third place. ■'..'. ,-..:'.. The club has entered two teams in the intcrclub competition, one in tho intermediate grade, and one in the C grii-de; both should do well if the present standard, of shooting is maintained throughout the year. So far .this-season possibles have been scored •by Messrs.-G. .Old" (3), K. PJittison (2), I\ Waterworth (2), J. Walmsley, H. Roberts, C. Saul, G. Walkoi, and H. Morgan. Mr. P. Waterworth is to be congratulated on scoring' two possibles, this being his first season of miniature rifle shooting. Mr. G. Walkeri" who has been on the tick list> Is back again at the range.
