BAND OF HOPE UNION
Some thirty delegates representing twelve bands were present at the annual meeting of the Wellington Band of Hope Union held in the Vivian Street Baptist ilall on Monday evening The Rev E N Goring presided

Sixteen bands are in being one new one, St. John's, having commenced during the year A definite ad vanee has been made in the woik Mr J Malton Muuay addiessed the gathering oh some phases of the woik This j ear was the centenaiy of the total abstinence movement begun by the seven men of Preston m Septembei, 1832 He recommended that a very special eftort be made by way of public demonstration to bring home to the general public the tremendous change that has taken place in medical ' and scientific opinion and opinion generally with legard to alcoholic liquor.
The Rev E X Coring was elected piesident 'Thehon seeietiry was waimly thanked for. his services and unanimously re-elected.
