"VIVA ITALIA!"

"DOWN WITH ENGLAND V\\

NATIONALISTS IN MALTA

EFFECT ON ELECTIONS

United Press Association—By Electric Tele-

' graph—Copyright. (Eeceived 10th May, noon.)

MALTA, 9th May.

The violence of the Nationalists who are parading the streets, shouting "Viva Italia! Down with England!" may cause a postponement of the elections. The situation is complicated by the Archbishop of Malta's pastoral letter of 1930, forbidding Catholics' to vote for Lord Strickland, which will not be withdrawn until a real peace is established. Lord Strickland is understood to have made a second peace gesture and apologised to the Vatican.
