PAUL VINOGRADOFF RECITALS.

The chief characteristic of the playing of the famous Russian pianist, Mr. Paul Vinogradbff,.is an uncommon originality and inimitable boldness of thought, not to speak of matchless technique..' An outstanding item of' his recital to-morrow night at the Town Hall will be the "Sonata No. 4 P Sharp Major,' Op. 30," by Scriabin, composed in" 1903 at the time of the famous Russian.composer's greatest creative activity. Mr. Paul Vinogradoff was praised by Scriabin himself as "the best exponent of his compositions." An Australian said of Mr. Vinogradoff's beautiful interpretation of Scriabin's work: " • . ._ Among the. modern composers only Scriabin succeeded to create those harmonies of haunting beauty which lift for a moment a- corner of'that mysterious screen which divides us from eternity and carry us, as if by magic, to the cosmic world. When Mr. Vinogradoff started playing the Sonata No. 4 by Scriabin at his recital last night, it seemed as .if we heard the music of the spheres revealing to us the profound mystery and unspeakable charm of the ethereal vibrations, the onrush of heavenly bodies, and the flood of eternallight." To-morrow's programme will also include works by Haydn, Mendelssohn,, Chopin, and Schumann. A tremendous, test of virtuosity, the Schumann "Etudes • Symphoniques," and the variations on the popular "Blue Danube" waltz, will give an .opportunity to demonstrate Mr. "Vinogradoff's technique.
