SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

Although there has been a rise in pressure since last night, the Dominion is still covered by an intense depression, and a secondary centre appears to have developed off the west coast of the South Island. Strong-and souallv westerly winds blew throughout Monday and rain fell during the day or last night In all districts, except the east coast between Akaroa and Gisborne. Snow has also fallen on some of tEe ranges of the South Island, and there have been heavy hail showers in Foveaux Strait. By this morning the winds had backed to south-westerly at many places, but they were generally less strong than yesterday and conditions had temporarily improved.
