TERMS TO APPLICANTS

The brief history of the Christchurch tramways dispute is really contained in the following advertisement published by the- Christehurch Tramway Board, which, be it noted, promises award conditions:

The board finds itself with twelve traffic men for whom there is no work. From January last these men had been kept in employment by rationing the work among the;whole staff./ Each traffic man went off, work one day in every three weeks. The union refused to continue the rationing scheme and negotiations, for overcoming the difficulty have failed.

Twelve, men have consequently been discharged. It is understood that the union resolved on Sunday last that unless these men are reinstated immediately, all members of the union, including carshed and permanent wayhands, will cease work on Wednesday morning. /

The board believes that a considerable section.of its employees will not give up their work, but in order that inconvenience to the public may be avoided the board invites written applications from men who are prepared to do the following work under existing award conditions, subject to alteration when a new award is made in June next: Motormen, conductors, omnibus drivers, car cleaners, car. adjusters, permanent way labourers.

■Applicants should state in writing their age and what previous experience, if any, they have had. These applications, if not accepted, will be treated as confidential.
