WEATHER IMPROVES '
COLD AND SUNNY
The cyclone responsible , for the recent spell of cold' and unpleasant weather moved away eastward last night, and this morning there was a welcome change to better conditions. Moderate to strong southerlies and further rain prevailed yesterday in eastern districts, but the weather in the western half of the South Island was mainly fine. Tho aoutherlies rapidly died down last night, and since thip morning winds have become more variable and there has been a general improvement in the weather.
In Auckland yesterday, the weather was cloudy with occasional light showers, winds-being, light and variable., Steady ram fell aU day: in ' "Wellington,: where a cold and boisterous southerly prevailed. The wind died down in the evening and/lighter rain fell during the night, but Ijhis morning .was ushered in with calm and sunny conditions. At ■ttelburn 120 points of rain fell yesterday, but the fall at Lower Hutt was only half that—s6 points.. Chrlstehurch Had a cold day yesterday, but the fresh south-westerly wind decreased gradually. Two points of rain fell and there were four degrees of frost at night.
