A CANTERBURY BALLOT

.CHRISTCHUECH, This Day

A secret ballot is being taken on the various Canterbury works to determine what action will be adopted in connection with the new rates of pay offered by the Unemployment Board as from Ist May. Tho men arc said to be greatly dissatisfied with the new scheme, as they will have to work extra time for little increased pay.

A Press Association telegram slates that £20,000 has been advanced by an insurance company to erect the new Criterion Hotel, Napier, which will contain nine shops as well as guest rooms.
