ORPHANS' CLUB
The annual meeting oE the Wellington Orphans' Club was held in the Masonic Hall, The Terrace, recently, when Vicepresident W. H. Bennett presided over a large gathering of members.
The chairman feelingly referred to the great loss the club had sustained by the death of Chief Orphan Dr. Arnold Izard, Vice-president Sir John Luke, Orphans P. J. Griffin, J. Kent, and N. B. Nolan.
The election of officers resulted: Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General; vice-patrons, Colonel Esson and C. C. Odliu; president, Orphan H. F. \Vood; vice-presidents, Orphans N. E. Aitken, W. H. Bennett, J. A. Campbell,' M. A. ■Carr, E. J. Colley, It. PullerUm, Barton Ginger, E. A. Herron, R. Johnson, and D. MacLaren; executive \ committee; Orphans P. H. Anderson, T. Booker, W. Downes, H. A. Elliott, J. D. Glover, H. Hill, H. Liardet, H. H. McGill, W. J. Smyth, T. G. MacLaren, A. Marshall,-H. Macintosh, W. Mason, and R. Laurie; hou. secretary, Orphan Doiiglas Stark; hon. treasurer, Orphan J. H. Melhoy; musical director, Orphan H. Godier; hon. accompanist, Orphan 3. Allen; hon. '.auditor, Orphan F. JE. McDonald.
The finances and membership of the club were reported to be in a strong position, and there is every indication of an excellent season ahead. The first korero of the season is set down for Saturday, 7th May. -
