ANZAC DAY
ENGLISH OBSERVANCES
LONDON, 25th April.
Canon. W. P. Besley, formerly of New Zealand, preached the Anzae Day memorial service at St. Clement le Danes. Mr. Latham and Sir Thomas Wilford reaa the lessons.. Sir Thomas was suddenly overcome with faintness during the reading, and had to allow the churchwarden to complete the lessonl Afterwards Sir Thomas wreathed the Cenotaph on behalf of the New Zealand Forces, and Lady Wilford! on behalf ,of the Victoria League of New Zealand. '
On the eve of Anzae Day the British Legion at Portsmouth, headed, by Admiral Farquhar; held a procession through tho city to the cemetery, where they placed wreaths "on the graves of the Anzacs there, which Portsmouth citizens main/tain trim and flowerstrewn all the year round.
The Bishop of London, General Ryrio (Australia), and the French. Generals Gouraud and Voruz attended the Twenty-ninth Division memorial service at Eltham.
