ROCK GARDENING

The director of the New Zealand Alpine and Rock Garden. Society has advised members that a photographic competition for plants suitable for and grown in a rock garden, has been" arranged, the objects being to take note of beautiful specimens in appropriate surroundings, and to place on record the . condition^ under which they have been developed. A further competition has been arranged for children. A list of 100 specimens of trees, shrubs, ferns, and plants will be sent out for study, and the exuminer will select ten from this list, and will send candidates pressed specimens which they will be asked to identify and describe.

. In n second phase of the competition candidates will be asked to give a description of thfi indigenous vegetation in any locality they choose.
