CYCLONE IN NEW HEBRIDES
STEAMER DRIVEN ON REEF,
(Received 28th April, 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. At' Vila, New Hebrides, a eyclons ' on the nights of 25th and 26th,April unroofed houses, and stores. Lighters. \ vrere sunk, in, the Vila Harbour, trading cutters driven ashore, and interisland shipping forced to shelter. Much damage was done to plantations; The Burns, Philp steamer Malinoa wa3 driven on the reef on the island of Aoba. Passengers, provisions, and mail were landed safely. Attempts to Te^ float her failed. It is an exceptionally; treacherous coast. The sea is now calm.' Damage to the northern islands is un« fenown, but is anticipated to be "sever* on the eastern and southern coasts. Vila, on the sheltered western side, thui escaped the full force of the hurricane.
