STILL BLAZING

GRETA COLLIERY FIRE

SYDNEY, 26th April. The colliery fire at Greta, near Newcastle, is still blazing fiercely.

The whole countryside is darkened by a black • smoke pall, which is accompanied by/objectionable fumes.

The pithead buildings and machinery have been totally destroyed. The damage is estimated at £20,000.

The fire is now a definite menace to the safety of the main northern railway line.
