JUPP'S BAND
The members of Jupp's Silver Band held their forty-fourth, annual meeting last week. Sir. W. Jupp, sen., presided over a good attendance of members.
■ The secretary's report showed the band tfi be in a very satisfactory position. The withdrawal of the council's subsidy had resulted in a great hardship to the band, as that was practically its only source'of income to meet expenses for music, uniforms, instruments, etc. The band had tried playing out on Sundays, but .after deducting expenses ■ for advertisements, tram fares, etc., owing to the small amount realised from the collections, there was practically nothing left for the band funds.
Mr. Jupp extended a hearty welcome to the uew members, and hoped to see several more joining in the near future. The secretary congratulated Mr. Jupp, sen., on completing 44 years of conductorship, and expressed the hope that the subsidy would soon be restored and the band enabled to carry on as in previous years. . . The election of officers resulted, as follows: Patron, Mr. C. C. Odlin; president, Mr, Arthur Law; a number of vice-presi-dents;, secretary, Mr. E. Ahem; treasurer, Mr. W.. Jupp, jun.; librarian, Mr. F. Martin;, committee, Messrs.'.H. S.- Jupp, C. Anderson, H. Walker; S. Cosgrave, and W. G. Basten. ;-'
