WEDDINGS

The marriage was celebrated- at Mount' Albert, Auckland, recently of Miss Clarinda x Josejriiine Nicholas (Linnie), second daugrfter of Mr. and Mrs. J.. K. Nicholas, 'Wellington, to Captain John Edwin Compton, London,, of the Port Huon, and commodore of tier Commonwealth and Dominion Line, third son of the late Captain and Mrs. Nicholas Compton, Devonshire, England. The.bride, who was escorted by her brother-in-law,- Mr. Nairn le Petit, wore a long frock of ivory «ilk net embroidered in yellow and gold,' a wtiite fur jacket, and a small gold lame. hat. She carried yellow chrysanthemums and roses. Mrs. Isabel Halligan (Wellington), sister of. the bride, was matron of honour, and wore/a tiered frock of leaf-green laco, a white fur jacket, and small green hat. She carried a posy of crimson flowers. Mr. A. C. Neall (of the Port -Hupn) wass <best: ■■-man,- -Afterwards, a fahiilyj party was entertained at the Grand! Hotel by Mr. and "Mrs. N. An evening , wedding solemnised at, the Otaki Catholic Church recently was that of Robert Hatton Burnes, youngest son of Mr. Alexander Plunket Burnes, Nelson, and Ida Macdonald, daughter of Mr. Macdonald,, Samoa, who surveyed a large portion of Otaki in the early days. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Riordan, S.M. -The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr. Angus Macdonald, wore a. beautiful gown of white satin, and a tulle veil arranged with a Juliet cap and orange blossoms. She. carried a bouquet to tone. Her. sister,, Miss Helen Macdonald,, wore a frock of pale* pink charmalene with a fur-trimmed coatee. Her hat was of a deeper colour, and she carried a posy.- Mr. Alexander Burnes (brother ■of the bridegroom) was best man. Mrs. H. Ransfield (Otaki) . was at the organ. Afterwards a reception- was.held at.the Jubilee Hotel, • where tall' silver vas^s of flowers decorated the tables. The bride and bridegroom will leave shortly for Samoa, where they will live in future. ' : • • •

The wedding took place at the Kent Terrace- Presbyterian Church recently of Marie, eldest daughter of Mrs. D.-G. Bruce, Queen street, Wellington, andWilfred Wonnacott, of H.M.S. Laburnum, eldest son of Mrs! and the late Mr. Wonnacott, Cornwall, England. The Rev. J. Baird officiated. Mr. Dunbar was best man, and Mr. Groves groomsman. The-bride, who was escorted by her mother, wore a graceful gown of ivory taffeta closely fitting at the hips and flaring to the ankles. Her veil was of embroidered lace-with a cap of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of white roses, asters, and sweet peas. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Joyce Gardner (sister of the bride) wore- a frock of pink satin and lace. She'carried a bouquet of pink asters, sweet peas, and chrysanthemums. Miss Grace Kellee, another bridesmaid, wore a pale blue lace frock, and carried a bouquet of lemon and gold chrysanthemums. The small flower girl, Miss Joan Eoss, wore a long frock of pale blue crepe de.chine, and carried a posy of violets. .All wore tulle head bands to match' their frocks. Master Jackie Langdon was dressed in a sailor suit. The bride's . mother wore a navy figured satin frock, with navy crepe de chine coat, and hat to match. Sho carried a. posy of brown and gold French marigolds. The bridegroom's presents to the bridesmaids and flower girl were Venetian necklets to match i their frocks.. Afterwards a * reception was held at the Ritz, Manners street. Later the bride, and bridegroom left for the north, the-bride travelling in a. wine-coloured frock with, hat to n»atch. . . '. - -
