THE RECITALS

TO-NIGHT'S PROGRAMME

.Fdr the remainder.of this week two recitals daily will be given oil the carillon. Commencing at noon Miss Gladys Watkins will play for twenty minutes, and in the evening,. from 8 o'clock until 8.45, Mr. Clifford Ball will present well;known airs especially suited to the bells. ■

The recital given- last'"evening by Mr. Ball was favoured by good atmospheric conditions, but was marred to a large extent,by the incessant .hooting from motor-cars passing in the vicinity''of the campanile. A large crowd gathered to heat the music, and the programme, which included "Trauinerei," "When Other Lips," and "Come Back', to Erin," was all too short for the de!lighted listeners. - ■' "■ ■

At midday to-day Miss Watkins drew another large audience with her playing of such selections as "Solveig's Song," Alfred Hill's "Home, Little Maori, Home,"- f'.Ne'w Zealand National Anthem," and "Hills of Donegal." ■ , ' , .

To-uiglit Mr.'Ball'will present the following programme:'—"Old Folks at Home," "Aye Maria" (Schubert), "O For the Wings of a, Dove", (Mendelssohn'), "Sercnata" (Toselli), "Andantino" (Lema.re), "Men of Harloch," (Welsh air), "Come Lasses and Lads" (English'air), (Metcalfe), "ISTocturne in E Flat" (Chopin), "Caller. Hcrrin" (Scottish air), "Minuet and Trio" (Mozart). ••
