DEFIANCE AT DELHI ,', MRS. NAIDIi SENTENCED I CALCUTTA, 25th April. " Mrs. Sarojiri Naidu, acting-president of the Congress, was arrested on a train, when, leaving Bombay for Delhi, where she intended to attend the. Congresi meeting in defiance of the Government. Other delegates were arrested, for similar defiance. Mrs. Naidu was sentenced to out year's simple imprisonment. Over fifty Congressmen have arrived in Delhi to attend the banned meeting. Following the arrest of the Congress leaders there was tense excitement in Delhi. The authorities succeeded in. rounding up most of the provincial delegates, but a few managed to meet secretly and carried resolutions pledging loyalty to Mr. Gandhi. They also resolved to continue disobedience till . India achieved freedom.
Thirty political prisoners who were being conveyed by train, from Aligarh! to Lahore at midnight overpowered their escort of ten constables. They; seized rifles and shot two constables,! one fatally, after which they stopped the train and escaped into the jungle.
