A valuable manuscript copy 'of the Bubaiyat of \Omar Khayyam, which is claimed to be;tho oldest Rubaiyat manuscript in existence, has been found iii the possession of an Indian family at Lucknow, where it was • unnoticed for generations. Copied in 1423, the nianuscript is 37 years, older than the worldfamoua Ousley Rubaiyat manuscript in the Bodleian Library at Oxford, which for a century has been acknowledged to be'the oldest in existence. Omar Khayyam, Persian poet and astronomer, was born at' Nishapur in Khorasahin the latter half of the 11th century, and died in the first half of the 12th century. A.D. A student companion having attained power, granted Omar Khayyam a yearly pension, and the poet was one of eight ■ learned men appointed to reform the calendar.- Ho was the author of astronomical tablei and of an Arabic treatise oiv algebra, but is especially known for his Rubaiyat, which has been, translated by Fitzgerald. . ■..-.■ "'-■.■■■■ ~.. ..... ; .
