The South Island trainer, W. Stone, made an apparently lucky purchase when he bought the three-year-old chestnut filly Alpinist (Gainscourt —Mountain Lass) from Messrs. D. H. McLeod and C. H. Slater recently at the recent Dannevirke Meeting. Alpiuist won and was second in Stone's colours at Dannevirke, was placed second at Feilding on Saturday, then won a double at Waipukurau on Monday.
