FEILDING RACES

EASTER TO HIGH FALUTIN' SOUCHONG'S BRILLIANCE r' (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") FEILDING, 28th March. ' The day was fine and .the course fast for .the concluding day of the Feilding Jockey Club's meeting. In an even betting pool ■ for the Easter Handicap, King Colossus wound up favourite from Korokio, although there was good support for at least four others'.: Korokio and King Colossus went to the front with Gold Dawn and Shrewd next, High Falutin' being at the rear of the field, Half a mile from home High Falutin' commenced to improve his position, but it was not till approaching the entrance that Grand Jury made his appearance to come into the straight wide out. At the distance Shrewd drew clear of King Colossus, but High Falutin' and Grand Jury both beat him home, High Falutin' prevailing by a length from Grand Jury, who was a head in front of Shrewd. King Colossus failed to repeat his first .day's effort and' finished fourth. The weight again beat Arrow Lad, while Korokio faded out of the picture to finish last. A SPEED MERCHANT. Souchong began with his customary brilliance in the Denbigh Handicap, but instead of weakening in the straight as he had done on thei opening day, he vvas drawing away at the post. ■ Hampden made a fast run crossing the top, but he could 'not make any impression on .the leader, while Aston was beaten by his poundage., and the' fast pace set. Consent again ran far below his best form. ARROWHEAD IMPROVES. Balloon was a false favourite for the Kimbolton' Hurdles, for although he improved on his . third of. the opening day Arrowhead held him comfortably over the last 100 yards. Callapat and Henry of Navarre were the pacemakers throughout, but Arrowhead was in charge on landing after the final fence, and he won by two lengths from Balloon with Henry of Navarre five lengths back. Just an Idea held a promising, position at the straight entrance, but did not go on with it. - superior class: _An increase of 131b failed to halt the Gisborne representative, Tai Ao, in the Eewa>- Hack Handicap, for after allowing Haulbowline and Lady Court to make the pace into the straight, the favourite ran up to Lady Court to beat her nicely by three-quarters of a length with Fairy Girl two lengths back. There was -good support _for Chief Savage, but he finished fourth after having had every chance. SENESCHAL LOSES A PLACE. required to cover extra ground by running on the outside of three runners, Davistock proved . capable. of winrang, the Awahuri Hack Handicap ' from Baskier and Captain Dan. However>, the winner came over rather sharply, just short of the .post, and Seneschal had \to

W—BjTMl W be reefed in, with the result that i& lost second money by two heads. A PROMISING MAIDEN. After fighting for his head in tiie early stages, Farmer was allowed to run along approaching the straight, and he quickly ran to the front in the Waiata Stakes to beat Riotous by a length and a half'with Park Acre third. Although the field was weak, Farmer shows promise of being above the ordinary. FREE BETTING. In a big betting pool Constant Sun was backed confidently for the Oroua Hack Cup, and he took the lead three furlongs from home to win comfortably from Decree Nisi, who got up/.tb beat Tigerism by a head with .Saltpot and Auctioneer, who were in line, next. The winner registered an attractive performance. Tentcall cannoned into Air Laddie at the start and both were1 slow to find their feet - thereafter. A REPEAT VICTORY. Green Linnet, winner of the concluding event at the November Meeting, repeated her performance when, after being well back approaching the straight, she came with a sustained run to beat Juggle and Habit home. Habit promised to be the winner at the distance, but weakened over the last few yards. The totalisator handled £13,130 10s for the day, making an aggregate of £24,576 10s for the meeting, as against £35,866 in 1931—a decrease of £10,959 10s. . . RESULTS IN DETAIL.
