AUCKLAND v. HAMILTON.
Some big, heavy men took the field in the. clash between the Auckland and Hamilton Marist teams, which was staged '. simultaneously with the Wellington Marist .A-Napier Marisfc fixture. The Auckland ; team, the present holders of the Spillane Cup, were successful by 8 points to nil. Two well-known and prominent players— S. Hadley and-C Hadley—were members of the Auckland combination. Generally speaking, both teams kept going well, the two packs having some solid exchanges, with. the. backs coming in now and again. ..The-handling of the rearguards, however, was not clean. '. The final score was not exaqtly a- true index of the run of the play. The Hamilton team several times was decidedly unlucky in not putting on points. Territorially they had the better of the second spell. Good chances.came their way, but something always went wrong at the "psychological moment, and they were ■unable to make the most of them. in a handy position, Muller .drop-kicked a goal and gave Auckland a start with three- points; The spell ended ■ -without any addition to the score. Early ■in the second'half Hamilton, with a strong .--fHsh, seemed to have a good chance of f coring, ibut luck was against them. A Sweeping rush by the Auckland forwards fcrought success, S. Hadley going over for ;6 try in the corner. Elliott took the kick; -It was not an easy one, but with a fine ".effort lie goaled. Auckland 8, Hamilton rp. The. Hamilton men again reasserted ..themselves, and for the. most part were ::jtne aggressors until the end of the game.
Chances came- their'way,, and once or twice they were within an ace of scoring, but each time success did not favour them. Auckland were the winners by 8 'points to nil.
