THE FLOATING DOCK
PREPARING FOR TEST
WORK PROGRESSING WELL
pmuc the "Wellington Harbour Board's Jubilee Floating Dock was shifted to its'perinarierit site' at the. Dock, Wharf on 19th February and securely moored, steady progress has. been made with the task of applying the finishing touches and niaking it ready fOl jts first working, test. When the weather has been unfavourable such work as could be carried out under cover has been proceeded with. On the whole, the weather has been agreeable, allowing the work to proceed with few interruptions
When the structure had been made fast, two of the major works remaining were the connecting of the electric power cables, and the fitting at either end of the platform extensions which, for convenience, were brought out on the deck of the dock. When a "Post" reporter'visited the dock this morning men were completing the laying of the power cables, and other gangs were at work oil the platforms, which are now well on the way to being finished, and increase the length of the dock from 527 feet to 585 feet. The one at the northern end requires only the decking to be laid down, and the girders are being placed in position at the southern end. In this work the travelling crane on the top_ of the outer wall of the dock is being used to handle the triangular steel cantilever girders.
The two centring booms at the northern end, which overlapped each other while the dock was travelling, are now joined at their extremities. In addition, to making certain that the vessel being handled is resting in the middle of the dock, these booms carry gangways which provide access from one wall to the other.
