GAME SHOOTING
A WAIRARAPA COMPLAINT
FIXATION OF DATES
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day. The action of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society in not conferring with its sub-branches before making new regulations came in for some adverse criticism at last night's meeting of the North Wairarapa branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society.
The secretary '(Mr. W. H. Saundersi said that a remit had been forwarded to the parent body recommending that the duck and swan season open on the same day The society, however, had apparently overlooked the remit and had seen fit to alter the date, the duck season opening on Ist May and that for swana on 22nd June. The society had not circulated the branch before deciding to alter the date. In reply to a protest he had made, the society wrote stating that the matter could not be reopened as the recommendations for the game shooting season had been forwarded to the Department of Internal Affairs. The matter however, might be considered before nest season.
Mr. C. Grey moved that the Wellington Society be requested to confer with its various branches before giving notice of intention to make new regulations. The branch had a right to know of any new regulations and should have been consulted in the matter.
There was too much side-stepping of the Wairarapa altogether, said Mr. Hardinowho seconded the motion. The Wellington Society, he added, seemed to be doing just what it liked both in shooting and fishing.
Mr. F. C. JBrackett, delegate to the parent body, said there had been a feeling at the council meeting that the Wairarapa Committee was right. He agreed however, that it would be advisable for the council to let the branches know of any proposed alterations to regulations. The motion was carried after some further discussion.
