ANOTHER CHAMPION
PETONE RIFLE SHOT
"Our town is a town of champions," said the Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie) at the meeting of the Petone Borough Council last night in reference to the winning of the King's Prize and the Ballinger Belt by Mr. E. H. Nicholl, of the Petone Eifle Club. Mr. MeKenzie said that he had sent a letter to Mr. Nicholl from the councillors and citizens of Petone congratulating him on winning what was the blue riband of the year for distinguished shooting. It was a notable achievement, and by it Mr. Mcholl had gained the honour of being associated with, other famous Petone champions.
It was pointed out by Councillor E. T. E. Hogg that credit was due to the Petone Eifle Club as a whole. It was probably the best and strongest rifle club in New Zealand.
Similar tributes were paid to the club and to Mr. Nicholl by Councillor J. W. Longman, and on his motion it was decided to send a letter of congratulation to the club. CLUB CONGRATULATED. \
Congratulations to the Petone Eifle Club on its performance at the recent "National Eifle Association meeting at Trentham have been extended by the Mayor of Petone, Mr. D. McKcnzie, in a letter to the secretary of the club, Mr. W. A. Scott. '
After enumerating the trophies won by the club, the Mayor said: "It is a wonderful record. The magnificent shooting of the members has commanded the general attention of the public, and it is very pleasing to extend to ..you all the town's felicitations in adding more distinction your honoured catalogue- of past achievements."
