DUNEDIN, This Day

That they could make a greater success of the scheme for rationing work among the unemployed teachers if the Department gave them a free hand was tho opinion of members of the Education Board at a meeting to-day.

It was reported that in this district work had been found during February for 89 unemployed teachers, including 40 in probationary assistant vacancies and four in vacancies caused through sickness or resignations. By filling these positions at & 100 a year thesaving was sufficient to have warranted the employment of an additional 23 relieving teachers fronr-lst February.
